I've always been a sucker for a roomy tote-style bag -- tiny purses simply aren't my thing. Moms, especially Spectrum Moms, carry a lot of stuff around. "Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it" is my motto. I like to be prepared!
Now, despite my love of bags, I don't own nearly as many as you might think. Typically I buy one spring/summer bag and one fall/winter one and use them to death. My last bag was a fabric tote purchased at Mouse Gear in 2009. This was the pattern. Note the usage of the past tense...
I really loved that bag! Unfortunately, THIS did not:
Time for a new bag!
I've always admired the Disney Authentic Collection by Dooney and Bourke, but for some reason this season's patterns don't do it for me. I was all set to pick something up at the mall when LeSportsac announced the Disney It's a Small World Collection:
The whimsical imagery of celebrated artist Mary Blair enlivens Disney's beloved theme park attraction "it's a small world." Inspired by her style, we honor the timeless message of peace, harmony and beauty with a collection of special products for your very own small world.
Goodness! I love Mary Blair's style! I checked out the LeSportsac website to view the Summer 2012 Collection and was immediately attracted to the Magical Journey pattern:
|Every Girl Tote with Charm|
11 x 12 x 7 in
27.94 x 30.48 x 17.78 cm
Zipped main closure, Pleated front pocket with zipped closure, lightly padded bottom panel, 9 in (22.86cm) handle drop, Interior back wall zipper pocket, includes matching pouch with zip closure, includes detachable Summer Collector's Coin charm.
So colorful and summery! And it did have the pockets and zippered closure that I require in a bag; not to mention the DISNEY connection...
I admit that I did hesitate a moment or two because of the price ($98.00) but I've owned LeSportsac bags in the past and always found them to be both functional and durable. I also learned that Disney will make a donation to UNICEF in honor of "it's a small world" for each bag purchased. I decided to purchase the bag and, after making a research trip to my local Macy's and finding that they did not carry the collection, ordered one online. (According to LeSportsac, select Macy's stores will carry a limited supply of bags in the collection.)
My tote arrived several days later in one of those flimsy plastic mailing bags. At first, I thought that there must have been an error! The bag was feather-light -- had they sent me a wristlet by mistake?! I opened it and inside was the Every Girl Tote with Charm. Honestly, the fabric is so lightweight that the charm must weigh more than the entire bag!
Nevertheless, I was delighted with the design -- it is very Mary Blair!
|Ahh! Plenty of room for "stuff!"|
I've been using this bag for the past three days and it's a winner -- not just because it holds everything I need, but because I smile every time I see it! This is a feel-good purchase.
Walt Disney and UNICEF began their relationship in 1964 when Disney created one of the world's most beloved attractions, "it's a small world: A Tribute to UNICEF," for the New York World's Fair. "it's a small world" strikes a chord with people who recognize that there is just one moon and one sun, and in spite of the oceans and mountains that divide, we are all here together to share this earth and take care of each other. The Walt Disney Company continues to embrace childhood and is proud to celebrate UNICEF on behalf of "it's a small world."
